Hi Jim,

Yes I'm interested in your method.

Keep in mind that you can use Line-In to your computer for your vinyl, tape, wire recordings, then use Replay Music to split (and name/tag) your tracks directly from your vinyl, tape, wire line-in.

mp3Gain will automatically adjust the volume for you after you've recorded the MP3. Just specify a folder to MP3Gain, tell it the volume level, and it will adjust all the tracks for you.

Hi Jim,

Yes.

You can use MP3Gain to automatically equalize the gain for INDIVIDUAL tracks
Or you can use MP3Gain to equalize entire albums - still leaving individual track gain intact.

Hey Chuck,

I have a somewhat complex, yet effective way to digitize vinyl, tape, wire recordings, etc. if you're interested.

ALSO......is there a program that will take, say, an entire CD with of digitized material and equalize the volume levels, BEFORE burning the disc? OR, run an entire playlist? I am always jockeying the volume when my songs have come from many different sources/

Worked for me. Windows 7 install following these instructions, and getting the exact versions posted (a Google search and you can find them - don't get the latest versions).

Note though that the required DLLs for the Audible install are no longer included with Windows 7 and later. You have to download them. You can get the two missing MSVC*70.DLL files from dlldump.com, as it's where I found mine and scanned for virus':

http://www.dlldump.com/dllfiles/M/msvcr70.dll
http://www.dlldump.com/dllfiles/M/MSVCI70.dll

I also snagged the required LAME_ENC.dll from there too:

http://www.dlldump.com/dllfiles/L/lame_enc.dll

Place them in your C:\Windows\, and then follow the instructions above to install Audible and then GoldWave.

Worked like a champ afterwards.

TIP: GoldWave supports BATCH processing. I had 100+ AA files to convert. Just queue up the files, check the box for "Convert to", select 128kbps MP3, and let it sit and crank for a while. Have a donut.

Enjoy!

I have an '04 Mazdaspeed with the Bose with 6 CD changer. Following your instructions I have the radio loose but cannot pull it far enough out to get to the connectors. I'm afraid to pull any harder.

Any ideas how to get to the connectors? My radio is about twice as high as the one in your pictures.

I have to get the right amp out so I can replace it.

Thanks Lisa, I was able to reproduce your results with the new Audible Enhanced format using SoundTaxi. This finally seems to be a workable solution. I think it is actually using the Windows Media Player engine, not Audible manager to play the files though. I've been trying to move my everyday audiobook listening from my Cowon D2 (which doesn't play the new aax) over to my new droid eris phone. I will probably still use the D2 for long travelling days though because of battery life.

On the android platform I highly recommend AstroPlayer. It has very similar bookmarking capabilities to the Cowon D2 and developer updates the thing every week or 2. It even supports bluetooth stereo, which will be really cool once I get some headphones for that and an interface for my car.

Hello, I live in the country and can only get dial-up internet, I have a home pc and a laptop , I bought a wireless router , how can I connect both my computers to the router so i can network them and use my laptop wirelessly to connect the the internet? What can I do?

Chuck Eglinton's answer: Unfortunately, typical wireless routers work only with high speed Internet connections through a cable modem or a DSL modem. Typical wireless routers can not work with dial-up Internet. However, a device called "WiFlyer" which is a WiFi router with a built-in V.92 modem. You can read more about them and find them for sale at eBay:

I actually am using the two computer set up and moving the files over to covert them to the mp3's. However, on some files (about 30%) I get an error when I try to open the file with GoldWave that there is "No Audio Content Detected". Sometimes it even happens with the second part of a book after part 1 worked fine. I tried to delete the file and re-download from Audible without any luck. Any ideas?

I moved to the country they cant get dsl out this far. How do i get service other than dial up. for my desktop and laptop

Chuck Eglinton's reply: I'm assuming you can't get cable out in the country, either. You can subscribe to "satellite" Internet just about anywhere in north America; even the most rural areas. Check out Hughesnet at this link: http://www.hughesnet.com/

have you tried Puppy Linux?

Puppy is really small and is designed for older computers and it is pretty user friendly. I'm pretty sure that if you maxed out your ram Puppy would fly on your machine. It is more designed to be used with dial-up internet though.

Also AbiWord might be a better word processing choice. It is free, open source, small, and fast.
